dr. E. Hoitsma

Na het afronden van de studie geneeskunde in Leiden, en behalen van de propedeuse biomedische wetenschappen en wijsbegeerte ben ik opgeleid tot neuroloog in het Maastricht Universitair Medisch Centrum. Tijdens mijn opleiding tot neuroloog heb ik wetenschappelijk onderzoek gedaan naar en gepromoveerd op het proefschrift “Small Fiber Neuropathy: A novel finding in sarcoidosis”. Dit heeft geleid tot een Lancet publicatie en een aantal prijzen, waaronder Prinses Beatrix Fonds Prijs Neuromusculaire Ziekten 2003, Dr van der Linden Prijs 2002, Pelerin Prijs 2002, Young Investigator’s Award World Association of Sarcoidosis and other Granulomatous Disorders (Stockholm) 2002, Young Investigator`s award European Congress Clinical Neurophysiology (Barcelona) 2002, Assistentenprijs  Nederlandse Vereniging van KNF 2002.  

Sinds 2005 ben ik als neuroloog werkzaam in het Alrijne ziekenhuis. Ik heb in samenwerking prof A. Dahan (LUMC) deelgenomen aan 2 promotie trajecten/-commissies met betrekking tot sarcoïdose. Sinds 2010 heb ik mijn aandachtsgebied van sarcoïdose verlegd naar Multiple Sclerose. Sindsdien leg ik mij samen met mijn collegae toe op het verbeteren van de zorg voor mensen met MS in de Leidse regio. Hierbij wordt samengewerkt met het Rijnlands Revalidatie Centrum en het MS centrum van de VU in Amsterdam.
